Sports were a good thing about the 1930’s. For example, the olympics, brought everyone together where they were able to forget about the problems endured during this decade. Sports were a time for people to get the bad things in life off their minds. During this decade, Jesse Owens, one of the greatest track runners of all time, raced in the olympics and set many records during the time when he was in the races occured. “In 1935, Jesse Owens made sporting history when he broke five world records and equalled a sixth in the space of 45 minutes. One record lasted for 25 years.”( Owens 1) Jesse Owens still holds some of those records still even though he has passed. Eddie Eagan was part of the U.S bobsled team during 1935. In the year 1920 winter olympics, Eagan boxed and won the gold medal. Eagan later became part of the four man bobsled team and practiced for three weeks not knowing anything about the sport. He later in 1932, won his second gold medal but now in the winter olympics (Eddie Eagan 1). Because of sports people saw sports as a good thing during the 1930’s era.
